The Byzantine spathion or the so-called Joshua sword was a characteristic weapon of the Byzantine Empire during the IX-Xth centuries, developed from the late Roman spatha. Rooted in Roman military tradition, it evolved into a refined medieval sword.
Featuring a straight, double-edged blade with balanced handling, this sword was designed for controlled and efficient combat, both on foot and on horseback. Its functional construction emphasizes durability, practicality, and historical authenticity. The blade is 51crv4 hardened steel (~50 HCR). The crossguard is made from mild steel, for the grip we use beech wood, coverd with leather.
This is a fast and light sword, therefore it is ideal both for western and eastern style combats.
